In my ChiRunning practice, I’m learning to put one foot in front of the other.
For me, this is my constant lesson. My allergies and asthma have been bad this past year. I am allergic to pollens, and most months, I run through swarms of it. So I haven’t run very much and am now deconditioned. At my age, that means starting over.
My goal is to run 5 mornings/week. I don’t have a lot of time nor opportunity. But so far, I made 3 of 5 this week. About the same as last week. Only one day was a great run. Other days, I was tired, my legs were heavy, my breathing labored.
But already, I feel stronger. And I know, if I keep showing up, keep putting one foot in front of the other, I will reach my goal. I dangle ahead of me an image of the strong, healthy person I will be, running with grace and ease.
Isn’t that what most accomplishments are about? Showing up? Moving forward, one step at a time? Keeping your eye on the prize?
