Running and walking are both great additions to your health and fitness program. They don’t require any special equipment or memberships or scheduling.  You can usually pack your walking or running shoes in a suitcase, and get in a session anywhere you travel.

Many people think running and walking requires strong legs. So if they don’t have strong legs, they don’t run or walk and they miss out on one of the simplest ways to reduce stress and increase wellness.

Or people have tried running or walking and been injured.

In fact, every year in the United States, 65% of runners are injured and have to miss an average of 2 weeks in order to recover!

But it’s not running that hurts us.  It’s the way we run.  Our body will adapt to poor bio-mechanics until it can no longer adapt—and then it breaks.  So, if you don’t run or walk far enough, you won’t get hurt.  But the day conditions fall into place and you decide to go the extra mile is the day something breaks.

Because we sit so much, our movements are even more compromised.  We create tightness and weakness in all the wrong places, and then try to take that misaligned structure down the road.

A better way to run and to walk is to move from your core!  That’s what Chi Running is all about. We use principles from T’ai Chi to align ourselves with the two main forces we have to deal with:  gravity and the road coming at us.  We also incorporate the idea of Needle in Cotton.  We create a strong central axis and relax everything else.  The more relaxed we are, the better we run.

The foundations of Chi Running are correct posture and bio-mechanics based in physiology and physics, and we use our core muscles to create and maintain these foundations.

In fact, we use our core so much, we like to say we run without using our legs.  Actually, we don’t use them for propulsion.  If you’re a triathlete, that will be music to your ears!  Imagine getting off the bike and not needing your legs….
